FAQ 9

9. Is it really worthwhile to have an appraisal done on a home I’m considering buying or on my current home which I am preparing to sell?

Yes. It is highly recommended that you have an appraisal done before either buying or selling a home.  The staff at Independent Appraisal Corporation have appraised several homes where the home owner or buyer clearly lost thousands of dollars on the transaction, because they were not properly informed about the value of the property in question.

For most people, the buying or selling of a house is typically either the largest or one of the largest investments they will make during their lifetime. The fee for an expert independent third party value opinion on a purchase (which may cost hundreds of thousands of dollars) is money well spent.

At Independent Appraisal we specially encourage homeowners who are interested in selling their home by themselves (FSBO – for sale by owner) to get an appraisal. Not only will you then have a written opinion of value with the evidence to support an actual asking / offer price, but you will also have access to our staff. Our homeowner clients find our services very valuable. After all, once the report is done, if you would like to call us or ask questions about the report, we are happy to assist you. This is just one more way that we have assisted homeowners just like you!
